Spring Annual 2022: “First Kiss” by Liz DeGregorio

First Kiss

When I think of you,
I think of a pile of garbage.
Bear with me: It’s more romantic than it seems.

After years (squirming, yearning years),
we finally embraced on the city streets.
Summer was in the air.

Every time our mouths parted,
            I’d glance to the side.
And there it was.

Every time our mouths parted,
that pile of garbage appeared to move closer.
That beautiful, glistening street garbage.
