Because we receive so many thousands of pieces, we end up turning down a large number of pieces that we knew were good enough to be published eventually and it was just a matter of time before they were in front of the right editor at the right time. Because of this we encourage our submitters to let us know when they publish pieces we weren’t able to find room for, or weren’t able to get to before they were accepted elsewhere. Of course a lot of people had no interest in doing this, even more forgot about it, but a few were kind enough to send us links when their pieces came out to link in this special “Ones That Got Away” feature which will be a recurring column at Coastal Shelf. We can add in additional links if any visitors realize that they have a piece that fits this theme.
