Spring Annual 2022: “Us Girls and Our Bodies” by Madison Frazier

Us Girls and Our Bodies

We dress and undress in front of each other. Naked and unashamed. We are in the bathroom, all five of us. Two sitting on the edge of the tub, legs and feet in the water shaving our legs. One of us sits on the toilet, running a flat iron over her hair. The other two sit on the bathroom counter, cross legged and pressed against the mirror. We pluck our eyebrows and draw on winged eyeliner and ask each other if our tits look sexy in this bra. We say yes. We offer our skirts and tank tops. Light a joint and smoke in a circle. We are eighteen and drinking and thinking about sex and boys and the way our bodies will look in the dark. We drink shots of Fireball and Kraken and never eat dinner. We hold hands in the bar and lick our fingers to wipe away glitter on our cheeks. We do not yet know about death.
